During cataract surgery, Dr. Solomon actually removes your eye’s clouded natural lens and replaces it with an artificial intraocular lens – called an IOL for short. Previous versions of cataract surgery used a “one-size-fits-all” basic IOL that was effective at improving distance vision but still left patients reaching for glasses for near-distance tasks. But today’s modern IOLs are available in a variety of styles to create a much larger range of vision and even correct astigmatism, to vastly reduce or even eliminate the need for glasses.
"...My vision is now wonderful! I just picked up my needlework, and life is much brighter all the way around..."

Patient TestimonialsBy age 50 or so, most people find that reading just isn’t as easy as it used to be without the aid of glasses. This is due to a normal age-related process called presbyopia. Although it’s perfectly natural, many people find that wearing bifocals or trifocals, or keeping track of their readers hampers their active lifestyles.
To suit the demands of these busy patients, Dr. Solomon offers multifocal IOLs. These implantable lenses can facilitate a complete range of vision that enables patients to focus on tasks and objects of varying distances – from threading a needle to recognizing an old friend across a crowded restaurant.
Combined with Dr. Solomon’s extensive experience, these multifocal lenses offer patients the clear, dynamic vision of their youth without the hassle of glasses.
Astigmatism is a condition that’s caused by an irregularly shaped cornea, and in the past it has been difficult to treat during cataract surgery. Although previous versions of cataract surgery were effective at treating cataracts, they did nothing to remedy astigmatism, leaving patients reliant on glasses even after surgery. However, Dr. Solomon offers several different options for correcting astigmatism and cataracts in the same surgery with laser cataract surgery, specialized toric lenses, or both. In many cases, patients with both astigmatism and cataracts can enjoy life without glasses after surgery. During your exam and consultation, our professionals will help you determine which option can give you the results you want.
Patients come to Charleston for advanced cataract surgery from as far as Columbia and Myrtle Beach, SC and Savannah, GA. Call Dr. Solomon’s office at (843) 881-3937 to schedule your cataract examination and find out which premium lens option is best for you.
